Okay, so we’re sitting on Nana/Papa’s kitchen floor in Charlotte, getting ready for the day, and I’m sharing with Aves that we’re exactly seven short days from leaving. So, she asks me to tell her the story Mommy tells her about the sheep and the Shepherd. Glad to comply, I launch into Jesus’ parable of the lost sheep, as told in Luke’s Gospel (3-year-old international version, of course). But she says, “No, Daddy! That’s not it!” And then she sets me straight with the “real” version. (more…)

I’m an in-the-moment kind of guy, sometimes.
I often have to catch my self wavering between two extremes: fretting about the future (which Jesus, pointing out the obvious, already told us does no good) and totally living in the moment. I mean, so totally in the moment that I forget what tomorrow actually brings! I think it’s a defense mechanism. You can see photos of our time at PFO below, but I (Anne) just wanted to give a brief summary of our time there. Tom may do a longer post of his impressions
The training focused on three areas:
- learning more about yourself so you can see how you will likely interact with your team at the school (through personality, communication, conflict resolution tests)
- learning about culture (how you view your own, how you are likely to view someone else’s, how to transition and adapt to a new place)
- learning how to adapt a classroom environment to teach children from many different countries with varying levels of English

Hi! Some people have asked about our schedule before we leave. . .
Currently, we are in KY visiting relatives, then we’ll all be in the Davidson area this coming weekend. The week of July 16th, Anne will be in Columbia, SC for grad school while Tom and Avery spend time with his family. July 22, we will head to the beach for a few days before beginning a frenzy of packing and repacking to fly out early in the morning from Charlotte on July 29th!
